The Beings of Beauty and Freedom. These are the most common of the elves. They are an open and friendly compared to other elves. They are adventurous and travel widely outside their own cities. They might seem a little aloof and arrogant at first, but they know the value of friendship and alliance with other good races. The High Elves are normally a little under 5 feet tall. They are fair skinned, close to the colour of cream. There are two different major variations in hair and eye colour. One is blonde haired with blue eyes. The other dark hair and intense green eyes.
There's not really any differences apart from the cosmetic, but they are often treated different by outsiders 'cause of the way they look. Their clothing is mainly light pastel shades, and they often wear green cloaks. They are woodsmen and hunters. Bows are therefore the most used weapon. Mounts are almost never used because they move faster and more silent on their own. They are also known for their gleaming, soundless Elven Chain Mails and their cloaks "woven by the essence of the woods" that makes them nearly invisible. The High Elf civilization is much like that rumoured in children's fairy tales. Elven homes are enchanted, the lands under their jurisdiction places of goodness. The realms of High Elves are fabled in the lands of men. These elves do not put much importance on society. They live as they wish rather then how others want them to. They live their lives without worries and in a natural splendor.
The High Elves descended from those who were personal companions and servants to the Gods in the First Age. Long exposure to the concentrated mana of the Gods has subtly altered the structure of their beings, making them semi-divine. Their lifespan is over a thousand years long, but they have such a low birthrate that the population is slowly dwindling. Skin tones are very pale to tan, the hair color ranges from blonde and silver to light brown hues. Pale blue, hazel and violet eyes are typical, but silver and gold eyes go occur, especially in the ruling house. The average height is slightly over six feet, most are lightly built.
High Elves are the aristocratic class. They prefer having the slaves do the manual labor. Their cities are white everything, stone, metal and woods. Inside, they paint everything vibrantly, showing off their wealth in any way they can. They prefer anything that costs a lot of money.
High elves are the aristocrats and wealthy merchants. They are the cream of the crop, and scheme and inter-marry to achieve this. The center their lives around money, sometimes including morals. Although most are wealthy, the ones that are not, have usually become clerics.
They live where they can make money and rule, but prefer elven society, but will go into other societies just as easily. The communities of their own are few, but they are set in the coastal areas, where they can establish trade routes quickly and easily.
High elves associate with the wealthy and the upper classes. Any poor race does not exist to them, except for to be ruled, and if they must communicate, they use a go-between.
High elves marry for money, if you got it, they like you, even if you are a neuter cyclops with no arms. They mate for money, the lower classes being houri ang gigolos, typically.
After the creation of the races, the world got divided among the Gods So their vessels would have a place to live. The Seldarine choose the forests for their children, the Elves, but they were secretly encouraged to spread as they wanted. They other Gods did likewise. And the newborn started fighting for the land. The hatred Gruumsh had shown was spreading to the mortals.
The Elves was at this time living in harmony with eachother. They was one. A proud people. But as time went by the differences among them grew. Some couldnt stand the life within the great Elven cities. They wanted to roam free in the forests. Some wanted to ban "outsiders" as humans and dwarves from the cities, Keeping away those unfavoured by the Gods. Each elf was sure his views were the right ones. Evil, distrust and decadence started to gain foothold in the elves.
The Spider-Goddess Lloth saw what was going on with the Elves, and started recuiting followers among them. They used her to gain greater power and influence. Her evil led they further away from the other elves. They used dark and unholy powers to make themselves mightier. They turned their backs on the light they used to love.
They difference grew and grew. They couldn't exist together much longer. Under the darkness of the night, the subjects of Lloth attacked their brethen. The other elves had seen the darkness coming, and had readied themselves. The Elfwar that would rage for decades started. The Elves of Lloth took the name Drow to signify their new alliance, and took the cities they had captured for their homes. With the help of the dark powers of their Goddess they was preparing for a final battle. Lloth covered the land in dark clouds, hiding the elves from their beloved light. All seemed lost of the Elves.
But the Seldarine hadn't forgotten their creations. Led by Corellon Larethian they struck hard in the middle of Drow territory. They fought fiercly to conquer the Darkness and Evil of the land. Corellon and the Spider Queen Lloth met in a hard battle for the land. Corellon struck her a telling blow that hurled her deep into the earth. As she was overcome, the light started to penetrate the clouds. The Drow turned away from the light of the sun. It was too much for the darkness within them. They followed their Goddess into the earth below. For their treachery against the Seldarine, Corellon Larethian made their skin grew dark. It would always show and remind them and the other elves of what they had done.
The Elves had stood together against the Evil of the Dark Elves, but as the war had ended they found the many differences that had started the dividing still was there. They grouped together with likeminded elves and split up. Some leaving the great Elven cities, some staying there. The wild life in the Forests, the hard life in the mountains, The free life in the skies and on the oceans. It all appealed to different elves... and they left to pursue their own ways. But they knew that they were Elves in their heart. Never again would anything like the Elfwars divide them.
Corellon Larethian and the Seldarine left the Elves to tend for themselves. They took instead residence on the plane of Arvandor. Living together there as the Elves once did.
This is after the great elven war when all the elves went there seperate ways.
After the great schism of the Elven people, those who had lost began to travel underground so that they could worship the demon spider goddess Llolth. Some, however, saw the error of their ways. They left those who would become the Dark Elves ( Drow ) and, as they could not bring themselves to rejoin the Elven people after seeing the destruction they had caused, they travelled to the Northern Wastes, the Tundra and the snow-covered mountains of the North.
They began to carve out an existence of sorts in these most inhospitable of places. Settlements grew, but due to the harsh restrictions of the climate, these settlements never grew very large. As numbers grew, new settlements were formed. As they reflected on the shame of their people, the Ice Elves not only turned away from the goddess who had set them on the terrible path, but they vowed to atone for their shame by dedicating themselves to thwarting Llolth's plans. They turned to a new God. An aspect of air in the form of a White Dragon ***** . This Dragon God looked upon his new-found people and was pleased. They had struggled with Chaos and Evil and turned from it of their own free wills. From now on, the Ice Elves would receive the backing of a deity, just as the other Elven races did in their struggle.
Whilst the Drow became chaotic evil, the Ice Elves developed into a lawful good people. They polarised from the Drow in many ways, yet in others they retained slight similarities. For several generations, the Ice Elves developed as a people in isolation. They took little interest in the events of the outside world. They adapted as a people to an environment which was too harsh for the thriving and expanding human race.
This may have continued for many centuries, were it not for the lust for power of the spider queen Llolth As her people grew in strength underground, she once again turned her attentions to the surface. Indoctrinated with hatred and trained hard in the skills of fighting, the Drow came up to the surface once more and fell upon their Elven cousins. The ferocity of the Drow was unrivalled. They destroyed many Elven settlements and slew many Elves. The High Elves were forced back and many of their proud cities fell before the onslaught of the minions of Llolth When all seemed lost, the Wild Elves came to the aid of the Wood Elves who had fought besides the High Elves. The offensive was halted in the woods and forests near the High Elven capital. The great sacrifice of the Wild Elves would be in vain though, if the Drow were not forced from the lands once more.
The power of Llolth was strong and the hatred-driven Drow were powerful adversaries. The Elven people were divided and weak. They lacked the faith to gain the victory they needed. As winter came for the second time since the Drow had returned to the surface, many of the wisest of the Elven people, saw a vision of a White Dragon. Some saw this as a potent of Evil, but the shaman of the Wild Elves saw it as a sign of good. Many thought the Wild Elves wrong when the Drow launched a new offensive. As the snows fell, the Drow advanced and, as winter reached its most severe, the Drow stood before the gates of the Capital and they began to lay siege.
The first day was long and hard-fought. Many died on both sides and, as night fell, the Drow were on the brink of success. As the Warmaster of the Drow Warhost struck down the last of the great heroes defending the gate, he held aloft his adamantine sword and cried out praises to Llolth As he called, the name of his foul goddess, the first shaft struck him. A rod of pure white pierced his blood-covered black armour. Before he could turn, three more had pierced his dying body.
The Elves took heart and fought hard. Alas, many of their number had already been slain and during the night, when the Drow fight best, they lost control of almost half of the city in confused fighting. As dawn broke, the Elves realised their loss. They surveyed the scene and their spirits sank. Upon closer inspection, however, their sharp Elven eyesight, that not all had gone well for the Drow. Many of their number lay dead, victims of the white arrows. They prepared themselves for battle, yet the Drow did not come forth. As they searched the city, they found the Drow gone. Posting guards, they went into the forests once more.
The sound of horns in the distance drew the Wild Elven scouts towards a hilltop. As they approached, the sounds of battle grew clearer. Many fought up ahead. The scouts told the Elven commander that the majority of the Drow were fighting up ahead against an enemy that they could not make out due to the press of Drow numbers. The scouts also told of small groups of Drow leaving the main host and returning to the Underdark. The commanders of the Elven army, decided that an enemy of their enemy should be treated as a friend. They charged the rear of the Drow formations. For the first time since their return to the surface the Drow scattered before them. The closer they came to the other battleline, the harder the fighting became. At last, they fought their way through the Drow lines and stepped into the open./P>
Before them was a scene of carnage unseen both in this war and the great one which went before it. In the centre stood a formation of strange elf-like people. Their hair varied in hue, often white like the Drow, but their skin was pure white. The symbol of a white dragon could be seen on their clothes if it was not covered in blood. Many more of their number lay dead around them than still stood. The number of Drow slain was far greater still. The remaining Drow scattered and began to journey back to the Underdark. Whilst many fell to Kagonesti and Sylvanesti arrows, many more returned to the cities of Llolth.
Upon the hilltop, the Elven commanders approached the white-faced warriors. They saw that they were indeed Elven, and that elf maidens fought alongside the males. Nearly all bore injuries of some sort, yet they stood there stoically, until the Elven commander spoke. He declared that those Elves who had united under his command to fight the Drow, owed them a great debt. One of the white-faced warriors stepped forward and identified the warriors as Ice Elves, asking that his people may be forgiven for their past dishonour. The grateful commander agreed to this. At that point, many of the Ice Elves, their duty done, collapsed due to the severity of their wounds. Some did not recover.
The sacrifice of the Ice Elves had been great. Only one third of the group that had travelled from their homeland were able to return. Though the Elven peoples had forgiven them, the proud Ice Elves would never consider the slate wiped fully clean. Their vigilance against the Drow would be a constant atonement.
High elves can average up to 7'. Their hair colour can be from dark brown to blond coloured, and eyes bright green and blue.
